This season in the Australian Football League, Hawthorne has finally got a break fromits continuous suspension of players. Brent Guerra, the Hawthorne Defender managedto free himself from suspension. Although he had to plea guilty, he managed to makea bargain for negligent conduct as opposed to the guilty conduct. He was originallypenalized with a ban in the two upcoming matches one of which included the crucialmatch against Melbourne this Sunday.

Jordon Roughhead of the Western bulldogs also was admitted as not being guilty thisTuesday, just three weeks before the major final match. Roughhead was suspended forthe next match for rough conduct but his advocate argued his case skillfully which meanthe has been left off the hook.

Quinten Lynch, forward player of west coast has been cleared of his charges of kneeingBrent Staker, while Joel Patfall was declared as not being guilty of rough conduct.

However the captain of Lions, Jonathan Brown has been charged guilty of tripping. Thischarge effectively mars his record of good conduct that he had maintained since the lastfive years.

In the meantime since Saturday’s match the Hawks have lost points to Sydney meaningthey are soon going to be replaced as the No 1 eight.

Guerra aged 28 has been a member of 2008 premiership of the Hawthornes and hasparticipated in every single senior match played adding his career total up to 95. He hadbeen asked on what kind of reaction president Jeff Kennet would express on the news ofhis penalty being waved. Although he did not say anything very definite, he admitted thata lot of people would be happy with the decision.

Guerra was accused of giving Nick Malceski, the Sydney midfielder a heavy tackleleading him on to hit the ground. He defended himself by arguing that he had heard theumpire make a call for advantage but not the second whistle which would bring the gameto a break. Hawthorne was further allowed to play the audio TV commentary of the gameproving that the umpire had called for advantage allowing Guerra the freedom to tackle. The three man Jury accepted this evidence. The verdict however implies that Guerra hasearned a demerit of 93.75 points.

Jordan Roughhead however had a tougher time trying to defend him self. He did admitunder cross examination that he could have hindered Brad Symes’ kick. Instead he gaveSymes a bump after the latter had disposed off the ball. Medical reports suggest thatSymes could be suffering a severe blow in the head.

Roughead’s advocate Gibson however skillfully argued his case by presenting the tapeof the match where Symes had recovered after the bump immediately and had not shownany much evidence of being injured. Roughhead did claim that he was nervous before the

trial as it was his first time, but was pleased with the results.

I blame Dusty Madrid. (Hey, do you think we could talk Sasha and/or Terrance into putting on wigs/wax mustaches and twitvid-ing a newscast?) My continued apologies to Tommy Joe Ratliff, who would probably think I’m a horrible person if he knew I existed, haha. Video: clips not mine. Major cred goes to Scissor Sisters TV, who are obviously brilliant (please don’t sue me). Also, major thanks to my many friends on Twitter who reply when I ask “Remember the clip…?”
